Acknowledgements
No major undertaking is ever the work of a single individual, and this website is
no different. Justice requires me to identify the capable assistance and support of
many friends and relatives. Special thanks are due to my good friend and fellow woodturner,
Dave Eaton, webmaster extraordinaire and repository of all manner of
techie tidbits.
Thanks are also due to my sister, Theresa Marie Mancuso, for her generosity in providing
much of the copy for the many items on this site, not to mention her talents
with Photoshop and cameras in general. To my daughters Diane Czebieniak and
Lisa Mancuso, my gratitude for their help in proofreading the different pages
and for their encouragement when I despaired of ever finishing it. To all those who assisted in
other ways in this birthing, I willingly and gratefully acknowledge their help
and support.

Wooden Bowls? Why should I buy a wooden bowl?
Yes, WHY buy a wooden bowl? Well, what are your choices? You
can buy plastic, metal, ceramic, glass, etc. -- or you can buy wooden bowls.
So, why should you consider the latter? First of all, most of the bowls
available are mass-produced copies of some original pattern. Metal and plastic
are almost 100% copies, ceramic and wood are the only types which are usually
made as either copies or original, one-of-a-kind artistic renditions of the
designer’s (who is also usually the producer) ideas. The copies, even of these
latter types, are immediately identifiable as such, too perfect or too common,
or too much like the many recognizable bowls produced by exploited peoples
throughout the poorer Pacific Rim countries and in other parts of the world.
Now, picture, if you will, a sumptuous table laden with
elegant china, stemware and silverware. Now place on that table one or more
stainless steel or plastic bowls of Salad and other enticing edibles. They just
don’t go together, do they? Now replace the mass-produced bowls with ceramic
bowls. Ouch! that’s one heavy bowl of salad. Trying to pass that around one or
two youngsters at the table may create a very short-lived salad bowl, not to
mention the mess that results. Most wooden bowls will survive the scenario just
described, simple because they are so surprisingly light for their size, yet
sturdy and, when properly designed, are immediately recognized as a unique
one-of-a-kind, artistic creation. Surprisingly easy to care for and certainly
one which will complement your elegant table and stimulate conversation about
it’s origin.
If this description makes sense to you, or rings a
responsive bell, then welcome to Wood ‘n Stuff, purveyors of fine, artistically
designed and created bowls and other wooden artifacts to grace your family table
and identify you as a discerning hostess or other Wood-appreciating person to
your family and friends. We invite you to peruse our website for bowls, large
and small, as well as platters, boxes, salt & pepper mills, rolling pins and
other articles of wood, all longing and searching for a new and loving home. No
adoption fees, just the understandable price of producing a quality, hand-made
item of lovely wood. We also invite you to join our e-mailing list (Use
the form below) for future
announcements and news.
Just another thought here, since we also dislike the deluge
of emails that we see every morning. Be assured that we will not plague you
with useless information, perhaps only to inform you of an occasional noteworthy
addition to our catalog. So, please sign up or skip over it for now and get on
with our website. We are sure that you will rethink that decision in the future
and probably you won’t have missed more than a few emails!
About Our Website
This web site contains images of well over one-hundred turned wooden
objects of various types. In order to manage this number of items, the
website is set up as a gallery. To make your journey through this site
easier, we have separated the various turnings into different groups as
discussed in greater detail below.
The page you are currently viewing is our Home Page. The next page in
sequence is
the Products Page, [OUR PRODUCTS - I]which describes our product types in generic terms.
After this page, the next page viewed will usually be the Gallery Page [GALLERY]. This is
because, as stated, our website is arranged like a gallery and every one of our product
types can be reached from the Gallery Page.
The Gallery page portrays a "listing" of our product line initially composed of a somewhat arbitrary
left-hand image and a scrolling right-hand sidebar of different product types (e.g. Large Bowls; 7-9
Inch Bowls, etc). To further navigate our website, select one of the scrolling images
representing the product type you are interested in. To do this, click on that scrolling image
and you will be taken to a similar scrolling display of that product type. At this point, there
are two windows, a left (large) window with the first selected product of that type and
the right (scrolling) window, which contains the remaining examples of that product type.
You can navigate by using either the scrolling window or by using the selection buttons
(First, Previous, Next, Last) above the displayed image. You can then explore that product type
and make your selection(s). After making your purchase, you can return and select other products
in a similar manner. Payment can be made as described below. We appreciate your interest and
we hope that you will join our family of satisfied customers.
Important Note! Once you have selected a product type or types from the Gallery page and
have examined a number of entries in that product type, you will find that it is not so easy to use the
Back button to reach the main Gallery again. As you may already have found out, the
Back button is
a mixed blessing (sometimes it seems that you can wear out your finger on that button). For that
reason, every page has a link bar allowing you to navigate to most of the pages in the website.
As things now stand, Home followed by Gallery always gets you back to the main action.
If you find any typos or other apparent errors on our site, an email to our
Webmaster would be very much appreciated.
Our Mission
Our goal at Wood 'n Stuff is simple. We aim to produce high quality wooden turnings for our
customers and to provide lucid and useful instructions in the craft of
woodturning to our students.
Company Profile
Wood 'n Stuff was founded in 1972 as a one-man part-time woodworking shop operated
as an adjunct to a "real job" as a chemist. For the next 30 years, small quantities
on hand-made furniture and woodturnings were made and sold locally through a number of
craft stores and shows, or directly to the end-users. After being "down-sized" the
opportunity appeared allowing me to further pursue my venture as a semi-professional
woodworker. I continued to make flat ware* and expanded the woodturning operation.
After a number of years, flatware became a thing of the past. My woodturning venture
has expanded to such an extent that there is no longer room for flatware in our shop.
As a full-time woodturner, I make and sell all manner of turned articles such as bowls,
platters, decorative articles and architectural turnings. We also provide woodturning instruction.
*Flatware is the term applied to carcass-work such as chests, tables, bookcases, etc.
How To Pay For Your Purchases
You may pay for your purchases in several ways. The easiest but least timely way is to send
a letter or note to the company offices (see below), or send an email to
sales@woodnstuffonline.com
with the following information: Item(s) desired, total price including 5% sales tax
(if you live in MA), your name, address, and telephone number including area code. Include a check,
money order or credit card information (VISA, MC or Discover) including Card Number, Expiration
Date, Name of Card-Holder as it appears on the card and the three digit code
(CIV) at the end of the signature panel on the card. Finally, include your preference
as to shipping method. We will
respond in a timely manner within the constraints of check and/or card verification and postal or other delivery
service.
Call us at 508-647-4999 and we will talk you through the above. This should be the
quickest but since we are a sole proprietorship, we may be out at the moment. In that case,
leave a message and we will return your call as quickly as possible
or when you request.
Finally, use the Paypal Service by clicking on the PayPal logo and they will assist you
in your purchase. Note that Paypal also gives you several more credit card
options. In addition, someone is always "there" at Paypal and your
purchase can be made immediately. We regret that we are not presently set
up with a "shopping cart" so if you have multiple purchases, you might find it
easier to call or email ( sales@woodnstuffonline.com ) than to repetitively go to PayPal for each
purchase.
Questions? Call us at 508-647-4999 (recalling that we are a sole
proprietor ship) or write to Wood 'n Stuff at 24 Terrane Avenue, in Natick,
MA 01760. We
will return your call or letter as soon as possible. If you have a
need to call us and are forced to leave a message, please tell us the best
time to return your call.
